This press release has:
(Vienna, 20 March 2025) – The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has announced a new partnership with Pallet Control Tower bv (PCT), a Netherlands-based company specialising in pallet and Returnable Transport Item (RTI) management. This collaboration aims to enhance the global presence of the EUR pallet system and streamline the exchange and trade of pallets and other RTIs.
Advancing Efficiency in Pallet Exchanges
A central aspect of the partnership is the reintroduction of efficient EUR pallet and RTI exchanges. Together with PCT, RCG plans to implement a system that offers a high level of transparency and operational efficiency. The PCT eCredits system enables virtual exchanges, facilitating the process not only in Europe but globally.
In addition to exchange services, PCT provides options for buying and selling pallets and RTIs across regions including America, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and Asia-Pacific. Through its PCT-Online platform, users can list or request pallets and other RTIs, with the platform helping to identify suitable matches.
Positioning EUR Pallets as a Global Standard
RCG sees this partnership as a step towards modernising pallet management and preparing for upcoming regulatory changes, including the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The regulation emphasises the need for compliant RTIs when exporting to the EU, and PCT’s cross-continental SaaS (Software as a Service) solution aims to address these requirements efficiently.
The use of API (Application Programming Interface) technology within PCT’s platform supports the digitalisation of pallet logistics. RCG hopes this partnership will help establish the EUR pallet system as a global standard, while also promoting intermodal transport across international markets.
Next Steps for RCG Customers
Over the next few months, RCG will inform its partners and clients about the options provided through the PCT-Online platform. The process of creating user accounts will begin, allowing customers to access these services.
