This press release has:
(Vienna, February 26, 2024) – As a leading rail logistics company, the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) once again receives a "B" rating in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The CDP rating is the global gold standard for environmental reporting and is used by investors, companies, political decision-makers, scientists and the media to find out about companies' climate-relevant data and strategies. "This year's result once again places us at a good level. It proves that we are making our contribution to a Europe worth living in in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and that we are living up to our vision of being the sustainable logistics backbone of the European economy," says RCG CEO Clemens Först.
B rating maintained despite increased requirements
As the sustainable logistics backbone of the European economy, the RCG once again reported for the rating in 2023 and submitted all climate-relevant figures to CDP. Although the requirements have increased and completely new topics such as biodiversity or the EU taxonomy as well as numerous detailed questions in existing categories have been added, the result was maintained at a good level. In addition, the RCG achieved a significant improvement in the areas of "Energy" (A-) and "Value Chain Engagement" (B-).
RCG above the global average
More than 7,600 companies throughout Europe report their environmental data to the Carbon Disclosure Project, with around 23,300 worldwide. With this year's "B" rating, the RCG is in line with the industry average of the CDP rating. Looking at all sectors, the RCG even achieves a result above the global C average. In addition to companies, municipalities, cities, regions and countries also take part in the rating.
Disclosure of important environmental data
The Carbon Disclosure Project is a non-profit organization that rates companies, cities, regions and countries according to their environmental transparency and measures. The aim is for companies and local authorities to publish their environmental data - such as climate-damaging greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption. The CDP uses questionnaires, which are completed on a voluntary basis, to collect data and information that is crucial for the rating.
