(Vienna, 14 October 2026) - The new timetable comes into effect across Europe on 13 December 2026. Ticket sales for the new 2027 schedule start immediately.* Following the major expansion of services accompanying the opening of the Koralm Railway, ÖBB will maintain these high service levels in the 2027 timetable year while making specific improvements. Passengers will benefit from more direct connections within Austria, new services to Germany, Italy, Serbia and Slovakia, as well as additional modern rolling stock.

‘With the 2027 timetable, we will continue to offer our passengers a strong and reliable service. At the same time, new direct connections and modern trains will make rail travel within Austria and internationally even more comfortable and attractive,’ says ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä.

More connections within Austria
Long-distance services in Austria will be expanded further. Key changes include additional Interregio services between Graz and Villach via the Koralm Railway in the early morning and late evening. Interregio trains between Graz and Maribor will also stop at Graz Airport. From July 2027, three additional IC trains per day in each direction will serve the Graz-Linz route. Together with the existing Interregio services, this will provide 11 direct trains daily in each direction between Graz and Linz. On working days, a new early service will depart Graz at 04:48 and arrive in Klagenfurt at 05:47, with onward connections towards Villach and Salzburg.

Selected improvements will also be made to local train services: in eastern Austria, Vienna Airport will have better connections and services between Wolfsthal and Vienna will be faster. Additional trains will run between Vienna and Wiener Neustadt, Eisenstadt and Wulkaprodersdorf, and Vienna Westbahnhof and Eichgraben/Altlengbach. In Vorarlberg, new cross-border direct services to Switzerland and Germany will be introduced.

New international services
Following completion of the upgrade of the Passau-Nuremberg line, ICE services to Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Berlin will return with the timetable change. An additional pair of ICE services between Vienna and Dortmund will expand the early morning and late evening offering. This will bring the total to 10 ICE services from Vienna to Nuremberg from the timetable change. An overnight ICE service will also be introduced between Vienna and Stuttgart.

Rail services to Italy will be expanded from summer 2027. In cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and Trenitalia, we will offer the high-speed ‘Frecciarossa’ train for journeys from Munich via Innsbruck to Milan or Rome.

A direct connection to Belgrade is also planned for 2027 for the first time since 2019. Two trains per day in each direction will offer an attractive journey time of around 6 hours 30 minutes. The exact launch date still depends on approval of the line in Hungary. Two new direct EC services from Vienna via Bratislava and Žilina to Košice will be added to the timetable. From summer 2027, RJX 765 will be extended from Bregenz via Vienna to Bratislava, and RJX 168 from Bratislava via Vienna to Zurich.

The 2027 services can already be found in SCOTTY. Tickets are available via the ÖBB App, at shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket, at ÖBB ticket offices and ticket machines, and through all sales partners.

New trains for local and long-distance services
ÖBB will continue the comprehensive modernisation and expansion of its fleet in 2027. A further 27 Cityjet double-decker trains will join the local services fleet. Six new Coradia Stream trains are planned for cross-border local services between Tyrol and South Tyrol, removing the need to change trains at the Brenner Pass. Further modern trains will also enter long-distance service: ten new-generation Railjets and 14 new Railjet double-decker trains will expand the ÖBB fleet. In total, ÖBB is investing around €6.1 billion in 330 new, modern trains by 2030. Around 80 vehicles were added to the fleet in 2026, with a further 57 to follow in 2027.

Major engineering works: passenger services maintained
The 2027 timetable year will also see major engineering works. From 8 February to 9 July 2027, works on the German rail network will close the Deutsches Eck route between Freilassing and Rosenheim. At the same time, the Tauern line between Schwarzach-St. Veit and Mallnitz-Obervellach will be fully closed for the second phase of the comprehensive tunnel and line refurbishment. ÖBB and Deutsche Bahn have developed extensive rail replacement and diversion plans. Depending on their destination, passengers on the western route to Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Zurich will have through train services with longer journey times or journeys involving rail replacement buses. Services to and from Germany via Passau will return to their regular timetable from 13 December 2026. RJX trains between Vienna and Munich in both directions will be diverted via Passau.

All information on timetable changes and replacement services is available in the ÖBB journey planner SCOTTY. ÖBB Customer Service is also available to answer questions on 05-1717.

*Please note that planning for local, regional and long-distance passenger rail services for the 2027 timetable year (from 13 December 2026) has not yet been completed and timetable data is still incomplete. Local, regional and long-distance services may therefore change at the timetable changeover; services may be withdrawn, further services added, or departure and arrival times adjusted. Please check the latest timetable for your service again in good time before you travel.
