ÖBB Rail Cargo Group offers optimised connections to the port of Trieste

  • Improved transport solutions for maritime goods traffic between Austria and Italy
  • Existing triangular connection converted to two direct services
  • TransFER Vienna–Trieste and TransFER Linz–Trieste now running two round trips each week
Vienna, 28.03.2023 – ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is now offering optimised transport solutions for maritime goods traffic between Austria and Italy on its comprehensive TransNET network. The port of Trieste is a major seaport in the upper Adriatic and is therefore of great importance for the whole of Europe. It is an important hub for European freight traffic and plays a pivotal role in transports to and from the Far East.

Rail Cargo Group has been running regular services between Trieste and Austrian terminals in both directions for years. A triangular connection has now been converted to two direct trains. This will allow RCG to accommodate the high volume of customers and partners at the Vienna South and Linz Stadthafen terminals and facilitate the handling of transports.

New: TransFER Vienna–Trieste and TransFER Linz–Trieste

The two new connections TransFER Vienna–Trieste and TransFER Linz–Trieste are now running two round trips each week with fixed schedules and attractive transit times between Austria and the Adriatic port. They provide faster turnaround times for FCLs (Full Container Load) and offer efficient connections on the RCG's intermodal network.

TransNET – the network

Available in 13 languages with an intuitive user interface, TransNET, the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group’s new digital map, sets new standards in the European freight transport market. Users have three options to find their desired connection: They can choose from three possibilities: they can select “Go” and “Thanks” to choose the starting point and destination for their goods, they can find their connection using our well-arranged list view, or simply click on a location on our map. This opens up a world of possibilities, with TransFER connections and combinations that they can link up to best meet their needs. After selecting the relevant route, it is displayed on the map and shows which services are offered at the selected locations.

TransFER – the connection

The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group transports goods across the whole Eurasian continent with around 60 TransFER connections, more than 700 TransFER combinations and many customisable routes. The transport units vary from entire wagonloads and intermodal transport through to complete customisable solutions. Additional freight services such as transshipment, warehouse logistics and customs services can be booked according to the place of departure and the destination. The RCG takes care of all the details – from the first to the last mile.
